How do I clean my menstrual disc or menstrual cup?
How do I clean my menstrual disc or menstrual cup?
Keeping your cup or disc clean is an incredibly simple process.
Given that you can wear a disc or cup for up to 12 hours, hopefully you will be able to clean it in your home. You can simply rinse it with water for every change, and sterilise it after each period.
If you are at home, you can use the following methods…
1. BOILING: You can boil your cup or disc (no matter the brand) in a pot for 3-5mins
2. USING STERILSIER:
a. Put your cup or disc in the steriliser and fill 3/4 full with water. Make sure the sterilizer IS NOT completely full to ensure it does not overflow.
b. DO NOT close the lid, just place it loosely on top (otherwise it pops open from the heat pressure and hot water will spill).
c. Place the sterilizer (with your menstrual cup inside) into the microwave. Microwave for 3 minutes, or enough time to bring the water to a boil
and to leave it boiling for a few minutes.
d. After it is boiled BE CAREFUL not to burn yourself – the sterilizer will be very hot. Once the water has cooled down, you can take out your menstrual cup.
e. Your cup is now clean and ready to use during your next menstrual cycle.
f. Once finished, you can clean the Ruby Sterilizer in the dishwasher.
g. Please make sure Ruby Clean is completely dry before you store it away
h. You can put your cup or disc into your steriliser, and then place in a pot and boil for 3-5mins or microwave
3. USING WASH: Clean your cup or disc with a menstrual cup/disc wash with water. Make sure it s completely dry before storing it.
If you are in a public space/bathroom, you can use the following methods…
1. Empty your cup or disc, wipe with toilet paper, reinsert

To wash, simply rinse with cold water and then (if at home) put straight into the washing machine or, (if out) put into a wet/dry bag.
When washing, use a cold wash, no fabric softener, and do not tumble dry.
Then simply repeat!
What is period poverty?
What is period poverty?
Period poverty refers to people who are menstruating who are unable to manage their periods in a healthy and dignified way, due to a lack of access to: menstrual products, sanitation, hygiene facilities, education and awareness, and safe water. This lack of access can be due to any number of barriers. These barriers can include financial, geographical, socioeconomic, or cultural barriers.
Period poverty can have significant ongoing and long-term effects on education, work, employment, and mental and physical health. Period poverty often leads to women and girls dropping out of school and missing out on work for extended periods of time, significantly effecting their opportunities for self-determination, income, and independence. These effects can be experienced not only by the person with the period, but also their family, including children.
Period poverty is a global issue, and even though it affects mostly those in low to middle-income countries in rural areas, it is also a problem in wealthy countries.
Figure shows that over 50% of girls and women in Australia, found it difficult to access and afford period products when they need them, while European figures estimate one in ten people with periods face period poverty.

Saves you money, time, and worry – if you use even the most expensive combination of reusable period care products over your menstruating life, you could save anywhere from approximately $6,000 - $17,000. We know we would prefer that money in our pockets, plus never having to worry about 'running out' or not being able to afford period care products each month!

What is your social impact program?
What is your social impact program?
Your Body Your Way is a new social enterprise and as such, we are growing our social impact program day by day.
We are currently working to begin our program in schools in remote Indigenous Communities in Australia, where period poverty can be prevalent. We hope to expand this program to women’s groups in communities in the future.
Our program is two-pronged - providing a culturally safe and appropriate sexual health & period education program to schools, alongside a donation of reusable period care products to students. 50% of the profits from the sale of products here will go towards funding this program.
The program will pilot in 2025, and we cannot wait to show you how we are tracking, the communities you are contributing towards, and the impact that making the switch can have!
Stay tuned for more updates, very exciting times ahead!
