Period Poverty - in remote Australia

In remote communities of Australia, women and girls are missing out on school and work every month during their periods.

This contributes to high drop-out rates for schooling, and employment instability. This can severely affect the self-determination of women and girls and often keeps them bound in cycles of poverty.

This is unacceptable. Period.

CONNECTIONS program

Connections is our education and donation program in remote communities, spreading knowledge and increasing access to women and girls around how to undertake period care, that doesn't get in the way of life.

No one should miss out on their education, their career, or their dreams - just because of their period. That’s exactly why we exist. We want women and girls everywhere to live confidently, comfortably, and shame free - no matter the 'time of the month'.

Periods are a part of life. Not a reason half the world's population should miss out on life.

2 BILLION women and girls menstruate every month.

Of those 2 billion, nearly 1.25 BILLION are living in period poverty.

That means that there are potentially 1.25 billion women and girls every month that are skipping school or work due to a lack of toilet facilities, or clean water, or privacy, or the ability to afford appropriate period care products.

This means each month, these women and girls are falling behind in school, losing out on income, and losing opportunities. This eventually builds up and impact their lives in a HUGE way.

To us, that is unacceptable.

Period poverty is a massive issue, that holds people back in ways that so many of us never even think about.

Your Body Your Way

Equality means equal opportunity. and women and girls deserve the same opportunities in life as anyone else.

For those experiencing period poverty, reusable products eliminate the need for recurring, expensive, single-use products.

They eliminate the need for clean water and private facilities whilst on-the-go (think 12hrs of wear, plus the ability to boil reusable period products for sterilisation in the privacy of their own homes).

They eliminate the shame from leakages - caused from using inappropriate or makeshift products (in lieu of not being able to afford pads or tampons).

Reusable period care has huge impacts.

It keeps girls in school.

It keeps women in work.

It stops thousands of disposable period products ending up in landfill.

Its better for your body.

Better for you. Better for people. Better for the planet.

We believe periods should never be the reason someone misses out on life. That’s why Your Body, Your Way dedicates 50% of our profits to ending period poverty in remote communities across Australia.
